2019 Holiday Charity Program – “Heart of Gold”

From November 9 to December 25, Grand Hyatt Tokyo will host its annual holiday charity program under this year’s theme “Heart of Gold”, reflecting the spirit of hotel staff and guests who wish to give back to those in need during the holidays.

With the support of non-profit organizations such as Kids Earth Fund (KEF), Re Kikou and Refugees International Japan (RIJ), the charity program features an interactive lobby area, a mini concert and a range of activities including SNS program designed to support people with disabilities, people displaced by conflict around the world as well as children in regions hit by devastating natural disasters.

Since March 2011, Grand Hyatt Tokyo has strived to support the communities affected by these catastrophic disasters through monetary donations, charitable contributions and volunteering efforts. As of January 2019, a total of more than JPY 60.3 million has been donated, and the hotel hopes to continue increasing the amount each year.

    Interactive Holiday Charity Program at the Lobby

    Holiday Lobby Area

    Part of the lobby will be transformed into a shining gold holiday area that reflects the “Heart of Gold” theme. There will be Christmas trees decorated in dazzling gold with ornaments made from the hotel’s recycled wine and champagne corks, created by people with the Re Kikou.

    The ornaments will be available for purchase throughout all restaurants, bars, front desk, Grand Club and Nagomi Spa and Fitness at the hotel, allowing guests to hang these charitable gifts on the trees in the lobby or to take home. After December 25, the Christmas lobby will then be transformed into a New Year’s-themed lobby which highlights Japanese design and culture, offering international guests a uniquely Japanese experience.

    Heart of Gold SNS Charity Program

    Guests are invited to participate in the SNS charity program by taking photo, or reposting any photo taken, at Grand Hyatt Tokyo and post them on their Instagram with hashtags #GrandHoliday2019 and #Charity. When the number of posts and reposts of the above (on accounts which follow the hotel’s official Instagram account) exceeds 1000, the hotel will donate JPY 100,000 to the KEF.

    As an extra incentive, guests who post photos taken at the hotel will have a chance to win lunch certificates. Special prize of dinner certificates will be awarded for the most photogenic picture. And for the photo that best reflects our “Heart of Gold” theme, a complimentary stay at the hotel will be awarded. Please see the campaign site for more information.

    Holiday Mini Charity Concert In Support of Refugee Children

    We will hold a mini charity concert in collaboration with Refugees International Japan and Tokyo International Children’s Choir. The concert will be open to the public and there will be donation boxes in the lobby area in support of RIJ which funds projects for people displaced by conflict around the world.

    ■Date and Time: December 1, 2019 4:30 p.m. & 6:00 p.m. (30 minute sessions each)

    Holiday Charity Ornaments and Tiles

    Grand Hyatt Tokyo works with Re Kikou, a non-profit organization that employ people with disabilities in recycling wine and Champagne corks into new products, to transform recycled corks from the hotel into beautiful and meaningful cork ornaments and themed tiles with images of children’s paintings from Kids Earth Fund. All revenue from the sale of these ornaments and tiles will be donated to Kids Earth Fund.

    Fiorentina Pastry Boutique will offer a delightful holiday charity hamper featuring recycled cork Christmas ornament made by people with disabilities with the help of Re Kikou. The hamper includes original sweets by our award-winning pastry chefs such as the classic panettone and colorful Christmas cookies – perfect for seasonal gifting. By purchasing the gift basket, guests will be making a charitable contribution that supports the employment of people with disabilities.

    About “Heart of Gold”

    Holiday Charity Program 2019 Heart of Gold 640

    Since 2011, Grand Hyatt Tokyo has been hosting charity program every year with different themes. Year 2019 embraces the theme “Heart of Gold,” which offers hotel guests the opportunity to share love and give support to those who need it most. The hotel is collaborating with Re Kikou, an organization that recycles corks from wine and champagne bottles used in the hotel to create original products. In creating these products, the organization assists welfare groups in generating work and independence for people with disabilities. A percentage of the revenue that is collected from the hotel offerings will be donated to Kids Earth Fund in support of children affected by natural disasters including the tsunami of March 11, 2011.

    About Re Kikou

    Re Kikou is a nonprofit organization that offers disabled people the opportunity to work in a safe environment. “Re” is in reference to reducing, reusing and recycling. The organization started by recycling batteries, which allowed for disabled people to work while assisting in environmental protection. The organization’s cork recycling activities involve the collection and separation of used corks, along with generating new ideas and crafting new products from these corks. This activity assists with the independence of disabled people while also protecting the environment.
